In Denmark, environmental protection is never just a slogan, but a belief embedded in the fabric of cities. Back in 2018, Denmark introduced policies mandating that all models bidding for public transport contracts achieve zero carbon emissions. Having operated passenger transport services for many years, Vikingbus has accumulated extensive experience running pure electric buses amid this industry shift. Rather than passive followers in the electrification transition, they have been proactive trailblazers.

In 2022, Vikingbus turned its attention to smart manufacturing from China, and the first Yutong T12E pure electric bus officially entered service in Denmark. Four years on, the vehicle has clocked up more than 240,000 kilometres. Following in its footsteps, more Yutong T-Series models are gradually reshaping Vikingbus’s operation portfolio. Yutong has consistently provided solid, reliable technical backing for this pioneering journey. Working in perfect synergy, both parties have unlocked the full value of premium pure electric mobility on every kilometre travelled.
What first won Vikingbus over when it came to the Yutong T-Series was its tangible premium quality.
Denmark features long, cold and wet winters. The range degradation of electric vehicles in low temperatures poses a practical challenge for every operator. Meanwhile, the national zero-carbon emission policy imposes uncompromising requirements on vehicle performance. Against this backdrop, the Vikingbus team paid an on-site visit to Yutong’s manufacturing plant to witness rigorous pre-delivery testing covering battery safety, power performance and handling. The dependable performance of the T-Series earned their recognition.

Recalling his first encounter with Yutong’s T-Series electric buses, Vikingbus’s workshop supervisor drew a warm analogy: “It is like welcoming a new partner. These vehicles stand apart from others. One of the features we appreciate most about Yutong is its build quality; all drivers find them intuitive to operate.” He added that the latest Yutong models are equipped with a large central control screen, so easy to use that “even a child could master it effortlessly.”
Senior Specialist Lars Bo Larsen also voiced high praise: “The T15E is our largest model to date. It delivers outstanding stability. In our opinion, its quality sits in the premium tier when compared with competitors.” Even frontline drivers regard the three-year-old T12E as “their own vehicle”, noting that the reversing camera and advanced emergency braking system deliver peace of mind and greater operational convenience.

Premium build quality is merely the entry ticket. What truly opened up new profit streams for Vikingbus is the T-Series’s exceptional adaptability across diverse operating scenarios. Danish schools require zero-emission vehicles for study tour trips, and the Yutong T-Series was virtually the only model that could satisfy all their requirements at the time. Consequently, these electric buses were deployed on school bus routes, transporting roughly 50 students over a 100-kilometre round trip each morning and evening.
An accompanying teacher commented: “The bus runs quietly with minimal noise and delivers excellent air conditioning. The children look forward to every ride. The onboard microphone is extremely practical, allowing us to sing and chat with the students.”
Yet the school bus duty represents only one role the T-Series fulfils within Vikingbus’s daily schedule. Between morning and evening school runs, the vehicles seamlessly switch to premium tourist charter transport or shuttle services for ferry connections. Capable of covering school transport, tourism and passenger shuttle assignments, this multi-purpose design has significantly extended daily operating hours and boosted revenue per vehicle.

When speaking about charging, once a major source of concern, Vikingbus’s workshop supervisor appeared calm and confident: “Tour coaches have a natural advantage: passengers need rest stops mid-journey. We leverage these 15-minute breaks for rapid charging. Charging ceases to be an obstacle, and passengers welcome the short pause — it makes for an ideal operating model.” The team was further impressed by the vehicle’s range capability. They have completed round trips between Copenhagen and Berlin without intermediate charging, with sufficient remaining range for local short-distance journeys upon arrival. The quiet, comfortable ride has made the T-Series popular among tourists, who often enquire about the brand. One driver remarked: “Nearly every passenger riding the bus for the first time is pleasantly surprised, and many stop to take photos.”
For Vikingbus, multi-purpose vehicle deployment holds the key to efficient and profitable operations. The reliable build quality and excellent environmental adaptability of the Yutong T-Series have turned this operational concept into everyday reality. Vikingbus’s workshop supervisor revealed that Denmark, Norway and Sweden plan large-scale introductions of new energy coaches in the coming years, with customers prioritising “comfortable and quiet travel alongside zero-emission green mobility.”

From the laughter of children aboard school buses, to tranquil tourist journeys and efficient shuttle services, the Yutong T-Series has delivered operational value beyond Vikingbus’s expectations. This is a story of mutual empowerment, combining Vikingbus’s mature operational expertise with Yutong’s premium pure electric vehicle technology. Looking ahead, Yutong will continue building on its technological strengths to cooperate with like-minded partners such as Vikingbus across the globe, turning every journey into a vivid vision of a greener future.
